A Routine of Creative Accidents

With the help of a new book called Accidental Creative (visit accidentalcreative.com for more) I am struggling to give my life routine that will help me churn out the necessary brainpower that is required for ministry.  As I go forward I am facing two struggles: Church life is not routine and I am not good at self discipline.  Luckily I have learned over my first year of ministry that facing a problem with bad solutions over and over again will not fix the problem.

So how can I be creative about creating routine?  A couple of insights I’ve picked up so far.  1) Find value in things that are not easy.  A new mantra for me is exceptional things are never easy.  Avoiding easy will put me in places of potential. 2) Be around positive people and don’t take responsibility for “rescuing” negative people from themselves.  Sounds simple and it isn’t.  3) Good input = good output.  Reading an insightful blog, exploring a good book, listening to talented musicians, eating a nutritious diet, exercising, sleeping right, watching great movies = ideas when you need them.  Video games, reality tv, fried food and squeeze cheese, couch potatoing = being stumped in a pinch.  We need down time, but even down time can be edifying.

The biggest change is my motivation.  Before I was motivated by will power.  Now I am motivated by a future idea that depends on my choices right now.

How are you coming up with great  ideas?  Check out the video from Accidental Creative
